Burn TimeThe time it takes for the candle’s wax to burn to completion. Our candles yield a burn time of 50+ hours.

Cold ThrowThe aroma a candle emits when it is unlit.

Cure TimeThe process of aging a candle to allow the wax to bond with the essential and fragrance oils. We cure out candles for a minimum of 10 days.

Botanical OilsAn oil extracted from a plant’s leaf, flower, root or bark by pressing or steaming.

Fragrance LoadThe amount of fragrance the candle’s wax can hold. Our candles have a 10% fragrance load, which means our 8 oz candles contain approximately 0.8 oz of essential and fragrance oils.

Fragrance NotesEvery fragrance is a blend of different scents and has three distinct elements: top, middle and bottom notes. The top notes are the scents that are first detected and are the lightest. The middle notes are the heart of the scent, as they provide balance and structure to tie the fragrance profile together. The bottom notes are the base of the fragrance and are the lasting impression of the fragrance.

FrostingA crystal formation that appears on the surface of pure plant based wax. Frosting indicates the wax is organic and does not contain additives or stabilizers.

Hot ThrowThe aroma a candle emits when it is burning.

Melt PointThe temperature at which wax will turn from a solid to a liquid. Soy wax is known to have the lowest melting point among candle waxes, which means soy candles last longer than candles made of other waxes.

Melt PoolThe liquefied wax on the surface of a lit candle.

MushroomingCarbon build-up on the tip of the wick after the candle is snuffed. Always trim the wick to 1/4” (0.6 cm) before relighting the candle to yield a clean, soot-free burn.

Olfactory FatigueA temporary inability to distinguish a scent after some time. It is a natural and normal sensory reaction of the body’s nervous system. It is often called ‘nose blindness’.

Sink HoleLittle holes may appear on the surface of plant based wax after the candle is snuffed. Sink holes can form during the cooling process when the wax solidifies and begins to contract. Sink holes indicate the wax is organic and does not contain additives or stabilizers.

Soy WaxPlant based wax made of soybeans, which are a renewable resource. Pure soy wax melts at a lower temperature than other types of candle wax and it’s organic composition emits a clean burn that does not release harmful vapors. Our soy wax is sustainably grown and harvested in North America, without the use of pesticides and herbicides.

TunnellingOccurs when a candle burns down the center and leaves an outer ring of unmelted wax. To prevent the candle from tunnelling, ensure that the first burn is long enough to melt the top layer of wax to the edge of the vessel. Doing this will also yield the longest burn time for the candle.

WickThe candle’s wick delivers fuels to the flame and the quality of its fibers are important for a clean, soot-free burn. Our candle wicks are made of pure organic cotton grown in North America and are free of lead and zinc. Our cotton wick is tightly braided and saturated in wax to ensure a slow and calibrated burn. Our candles are anchored by two wicks to emit a consistent scent throw.
